Butanediol is an important intermediate for engineering plastics and fibers. End product applications include polyurethane, PBT and polymers used to manufacture items such as training shoes and car parts. 1, 4-Butanediol (BDO) can be produced from maleic anhydride (MAH) and methanol using esterification and hydrogenation.
