Nutraceuticals are food products or dietary supplements that have proven health benefits, many of which are derived from plants and minerals. Ion exchange and adsorbent resins can offer a cost-effective solution for the recovery of a wide variety of nutraceuticals.

Nutrition Applications

AMINO ACIDS

Ion-exchange chromatography is a popular technique for the analysis of amino acids because both retention times and quantification are highly reproducible, regardless of the sample matrix. This unique matrix insensitivity is important when comparing results from different patients or batches of protein hydrolysate.

CITRIC AND LACTIC ACID

Citric and lactic acid are large volume organic acids used primarily in the food and beverage industry as acidulents and preservatives. Lactic and citric acid will break and shorten the useful life of most resins available. Dow Water & Process Solutions has engineered specific resins to survive the severe osmotic forces created by the processing of organic acids, and these resins also are economical to operate due to optimized capacity and minimal regeneration requirements.

DAIRY

Dow’s reverse osmosis elements and ion exchange resins have been successfully used to process a wide range of dairy streams. These products are especially effective in dewatering applications and product concentration.

GELATINE

Gelatine cleaned with ion exchange resins is used in the food, pharmaceutical and photo industries. The ion exchangers extract disturbing mineral salts by means of gelatine's cleaning, whereby a sensory product improvement is obtained or unwanted secondary reactions are avoided.

PLANT EXTRACTS

Dow Water & Process Solutions technologies allow natural color recovery and polyphenols recovery from tea, grapes, pomegranate, cranberries, cinnamon and other spices – to name a few.

SODIUM GLUTAMATE

Dow Water & Process Solutions technologies are used in decolorization applications for foods using sodium glutamate.
