Dow Water & Process Solutions offers a wide variety of resins designed specifically for sweetener applications. Used extensively in many other sweetener feed streams, Dow resins are also used in the production of non-nutritive sweeteners such as xylitol, sorbitol and mannitol.

Sweetener Applications

AGAVE PROCESSING

Dow Water & Process Solutions technologies are used to demineralize and decolorize agave.

BEET SUGAR

Dow offers resins designed specifically for beet syrup processing, including de-ashing, de-calcification (softening), decolorization, invert sugar production and chromatographic separation of molasses to recover sucrose, betaine or amino acids.

CORN WET MILLING

Dow offers a wide variety of resins integral to processing corn syrup, high-fructose corn syrup and other starch-based syrups. Dow resins and adsorbents are used in five major unit processes in corn sweetener processing: de-ashing, chromatographic separation of dextrose and fructose, chromatographic purification of dextrose, mixed bed polishing and color removal.
Without ion exchange resins, corn wet-milling used to produce dextrose, high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), very high purity HFCS and crystalline fructose could not exist.

MAPLE SYRUP

Maple syrup is produced by concentrating the sugar content in maple sap from approximately two percent to at least 66 percent. Traditionally, sugar concentration was achieved by boiling maple sap in large open-pan thermal evaporators. Reverse osmosis membranes are used to pre-concentrate maple sap prior to boiling, shorting the production time for the finished product.

POLYOLS/SUGAR ALCOHOL

Chromatographic separation via ion exchange is a manufacturing process used primarily in the sugar industry to separate dissolved chemicals. Compounds purified by Dow chromatography offerings include sucrose, glucose, fructose, oligosaccharides, raffinose, maltose, xylose, sugar alcohols, betaine, xylitol, sorbitol and mannitol.

SPECIAL SUGAR

Dow Water & Process Solutions technologies are used to process various types of niche sugars for use in food and beverages.

SUGAR CANE PROCESSING

Dow offers resins designed specifically for cane processing such as deashing and decolorization.
