The DOWEX™ UPCORE™ system is a cost saving alternative to traditional co-flow ion exchange. An upflow regeneration system with downflow service, the UPCORE system, combined with DOWEX UPCORE Mono ion exchange resins, provides for more efficient use of regenerant chemicals, thereby significantly diminishing waste water volumes, and reduced effluent post-processing effort.

DOWEX UPCORE Mono ion exchange resins provide high operating capacity and chemical efficiency, reduced waste production, and exceptional mechanical integrity. These resins have high resistance to attrition, preventing generation of fines as the resins age in service.

In the production cycle, flexibility in the operational flow is possible. The feedwater enters from the top of the vessel. During regeneration, the water flows from the bottom to the top in a compact bed configuration. Suspended solids are automatically removed from the surface of the resin bed during each regeneration cycle, leaving no need for a separate backwash tank.

The advantages to the UPCORE™ system include:

  • Excellent water quality
  • High chemical efficiency
  • Short regeneration time
  • Simple construction and control
  • Self cleaning
  • Insensitivity to production flow variations and stops
  • No risk of carry-over of resin fines
  • Layered bed design without the need for a middle plate
